One of the most important of North Indian wedding traditions is the exchanging of garlands, commonly referred to as the Jaimala ceremony and is symbolic of accepting one another.

Its ‘Haldi’ time now, in this ceremony the bride is made to apply turmeric paste. In olden days it has been done from 10 to 15 days before marriage.

And now the wedding celebration starts. All gathers at the bride’s house and the bride’s father performs the pooja for the event ‘ DWAR POOJA’ landing up on a thilak on Groom’s Forehead and touching his feet. For an Indian bride, especially the north Indian bride, the favored bridal outfit is lehenga – a combination of long skirt (lehenga), blouse (choli) and stole (dupatta). We can stop using paper cups and start using cups, plates, and spoons or we can use recyclable and reusable items which can be used which save the longevity of lot of people as they breathe a good air.

The technology is also helping us a lot to Go Green and save trees. Instead of using wedding cards to invite peoples, it helps to invite people online. We can create online invitation using websites like www.invity.com and invitations can be also be printed in the 100% recycled paper products.

Avoid throwing trashes and have a habit of throwing it in the dust bin which makes the environment eco-friendly. In Parties and functions we can use the same cups by writing the name in the cup to drink water instead of taking new cups every time.

We can also start using the cups and plates that are made of corn which is an eco-frindly products and the decorative article which are used and thrown away can be reused for a small functions.

Inter Religious Marriage

February 1, 2013

Hi All, I am back again and this week i wanted to pen down my thoughts about inter religious marriages. It is where two people marry from different community or culture. This is common in western countries but in India it was consider as an offense. Today it has become common and its being welcomed by the societies.

But the questions is “Are the inter religious marriages lasting?”

I Know a Tamil Brahmin boy married to a Malayalam Christian girl. Their Wedding celebration itself was different. They had an Arya Samaj style like wedding in the morning and in the evening it was like a Christian type reception. Both are leading a success life till today.

But the success rate of inter caste marriage is very less and the percentage of divorce cases is high. This is because two people come from different culture and adapting to a different culture is a challenging job. Winning this challenge is where one saves their marriage and when one gives up for their family they succeed in their marriage.

My Thought on to hold these marriages is two people should understand not only the other character but also about their culture and their way of living before getting married, so that binding between them will be strong and the marriage holds forever.

To conclude we should welcome these kinds of community changes in our country.

Indian Marriage

Its been my interest to write about Indian Marriage and at last i got a chance to pen down my thoughts about general Indian Marriage.

An Indian Marriage is generally not only bringing two people together but merging two families together. There are lots of Marriage customs in India like North Indian Wedding, South Indian Wedding, Hindu Wedding, Christian Wedding, Muslim Wedding and the list goes on.

In India much importance is given to Marriage and in some customs Marriage will happen for more than a day. They have lots of rituals before and after the wedding. The bride and grooms parents will exchange new dresses as a ritual. Even in a cross-cultural Indian Marriage, the Marriage will take place in both styles.

Even before the bride and the groom are selected some people book the Marriage Halls in advance because getting Marriage halls is not that easy for a Marriage. People usually have to wait at least for 6 months to get a Marriage hall. The close relatives will be present a week before the Marriage and plan for the Marriage, the costumes they like to wear and the hair styles and the many to add to the preparation list. The relatives also try to find bride or groom for their boy or girl in the appropriate age to get married. Many people seek this as a chance to meet the other relatives as they may be living in different city.

On Whole Indian Marriage is a mixture of fun, emotions, sentiments, rituals and merging of two families and two souls as one.

Dhoni’s Wedding Panache

July 7, 2010

The speed at which Dhoni married his childhood friend Sakshi Rawat was faster than the cricket ball which travels out of the stadium when he hit.  He wore a blue ‘sherwani’ which was designed by Narendra Kumar. His bride was wearing brocade lehenga designed by Sabyasachi. Do you know what he is going to wear for his reception, hear it from the designer  “Dhoni’s reception outfit is a black silk wool suit with narrow lapels, made keeping in mind that he wanted a sober ensemble. The fabric has a bit of shine and the trousers are slim fitted.” No one know when is his reception as he is on-duty for next 30days in Srilanka.
